LONE SAMURAI
- World Premiere
- Q&A with filmmaker Josh Waller and producer Alan Pao
ABOUT THE FILM:
LONE SAMURAI, directed by Josh C. Waller, reimagines the classic samurai epic through an intimate, hallucinatory lens. When a violent and reckless ronin (Shogen) is shipwrecked on a remote island, he’s left with no outlet for his rage—only the ghosts of his past and the unforgiving landscape around him. As isolation corrodes his mind, his search for peace turns into a brutal spiritual trial, one that blurs the line between reality and nightmare.
Drawn into a clash with unseen forces—both human and otherwise—the ronin is forced to rediscover his code of honor before his demons consume him. With sparse dialogue, stark visuals, and a surreal crescendo that fuses CAST AWAY’s existential solitude with the feverish pulp of TEMPLE OF DOOM, LONE SAMURAI becomes a meditation on redemption, madness, and survival. Waller, known for his genre-defying work with SpectreVision (RAZE, CAMINO), delivers a stripped-down, acid-drenched chanbara that’s as brutal as it is transcendent.
