A Nightmare on Elm Street is one of the undisputed genre classics and the film that made Craven a household name. Focusing on Nancy Thompson (Heather Langenkamp) and her friends whose dreams are stalked by a vicious serial killer named Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund), Nightmare is a masterpiece in tension and discomfort, creating a dream landscape that once seen, can never be unseen or forgotten.

The Serpent & The Rainbow is Craven’s masterful exploration of a tale of horror loosely based on a true story. Dr. Dennis Allan (Bill Pullman), a Harvard anthropologist from the States, is sent to Haiti to find a miraculous powder purported to bring the dead back to life. The cynical scientist quickly finds himself on a nightmarish journey through the darkest heart of voodoo and black magic when he starts meddling in things he doesn’t understand, namely ancient curses and blood rites. Craven’s brilliant gem presents voodoo in a beautifully realistic manner whilst keeping a constant sense of palpable supernatural dread.
