Keir Dullea & Gary Lockwood Join Beyond Fest for Debut Screening of New 70-mm Print of ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’

“As part of the ongoing Beyond Fest, on Sunday night “2001: A Space Odyssey” will show at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood with actors Keir Dullea and Gary Lockwood in attendance.

And while that is cause enough for excitement among movie fans, it is possible the real star of the evening could be the physical print of the movie itself. The event will be the debut screening for a new 70-mm print that the American Cinematheque will have exclusive exhibition rights to in a five-year deal with Warner Brothers.

The Cinematheque will schedule two extended runs for the print per year, one at the Egyptian and one at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica.” Continue Reading at LATimes.com

BEYOND FEST ANNOUNCES ITS FULL SLATE FOR THE RETURN OF LA’S BIGGEST GENRE FILM FESTIVAL

RAW, THE BAD BATCH, THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS, BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA ANNIVERSARY, DOG EAT DOG, TAXI DRIVER ANNIVERSARY, 2001 A SPACE ODYSSEY (70mm), DAWN OF THE DEAD 3-D, PHANTASM: REMASTERED, IN THE VALLEY OF VIOLENCE join Kurt Russell, James Gunn, RZA, Paul Schrader, Keir Dullea, Gary Lockwood & Fabio Frizzi for a slate featuring 23 West Coast Premieres, iconic repertory screenings, and live musical performances!

Los Angeles, CA – Thursday, September 8, 2016 Beyond Fest, the highest attended genre film festival in the US is excited to announce its full slate of 2016 programming featuring 27 events and 23 West Coast premieres of mind-bending movie madness. Presented by Shudder, Beyond Fest returns to Hollywood’s famed Egyptian Theatre for 12 days of movies, music and mayhem spanning Friday, September 30th – Tuesday, October 11th to generate funds for co-presenter, the nonprofit American Cinematheque.

With a diverse slate that includes films from all corners of the globe Beyond Fest is proud to open with movie icon Paul Schrader presenting his new feature DOG EAT DOG and a special 40th anniversary screening of TAXI DRIVER. Other hotly-anticipated titles making their West Coast bows include the hyper-explosive coming-of-age cannibal drama RAW, Ana Lily Amipour’s much-anticipated follow up to her alt-cult debut, A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE, the stunning, sonic desert trip THE BAD BATCH, the terrifying adaptation of M.R Carey’s post-apocalyptic horror THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS and the Mo Brothers’ outrageously hyper-violent action epic, HEADSHOT.

“We really wanted to focus on blending the iconic with the emerging this year” said Beyond Fest Co-Founder, Christian Parkes. “To champion brilliantly provocative films like Julia Ducourna’s RAW and Ana Lily Amipour’s THE BAD BATCH whilst celebrating established heroes like Paul Schrader and Kurt Russell is a primary reason for Beyond Fest’s existence.”

The most beloved genre films are highlighted with four event screenings over the course of this year’s festival. The legend himself Kurt Russell takes center stage with James Gunn moderating for a very special 30th anniversary screening of BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA projected on glorious 35mm. The “ultimate trip” receives the ultimate treatment as Stanley Kubrick’s existential epic 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY screens in 70mm with a 2001-scored Laserium cosmic laser concert and Q&A featuring the film’s two astronaut leads, Keir Dullea and Gary Lockwood. The Tall Man returns with J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot meticulous restoration of Don Coscarelli’s cult classic PHANTASM: REMASTERED. Coscarelli will be joined with members of the original cast before the West Coast premiere of the series’ final entry PHANTASM RAVAGER. In keeping with the restoration theme, producer Richard P. Rubinstein will be on hand to present the U.S. Premiere of DAWN OF THE DEAD 3-D. Romero’s cult nightmare has never looked better and will be the first laser 3-D feature projected at the famed Egyptian Theatre.

Once again, music features prominently with two seismic re scores taking center stage. Furiously blurring the lines between music, film and art, Beyond Fest welcomes a new disciple and an old friend with two seismic re scores. Director, producer, actor, Wu Tang Clan founder and the all-together mythic RZA enters the fray with a roundhouse kick for his epic takedown of a martial arts masterpiece. 18 months in the making, RZA: LIVE FROM THE 36th CHAMBER OF SHAOLIN is a mammoth live re scoring of Lau Kar-leung’s Shaw Brothers classic featuring over 40+ tracks culled from RZA’s monumental catalog. Instrumental tracks, beats, samples and vocal tracks amplify the narrative and Gordon Liu’s revelatory performance.

Returning to Los Angeles is legendary composer Fabio Frizzi and his 7-piece orchestra to perform THE BEYOND: COMPOSER’S CUT. This bold, new take on Lucio Fulci’s gothic masterpiece features a live re score featuring a completely new composition and will play with all original dialog intact. THE BEYOND: COMPOSER’S CUT will be accompanied by an uncut 35mm screening of GATES OF HELL and a very special secret screening with surprise guests.

Celebrating LA filmmaking remains a priority for Beyond Fest with Ti West receiving this year’s ‘LA Spotlight’ for his transformative western, IN A VALLEY OF VIOLENCE. Beyond Fest alumni West will be joined by cast members Karen Gillan, Taissa Farmiga, Toby Huss, James Ransone and the film’s four-legged star, Jumpy. LA also represents en masse with a midnight blast of animated anarchy as Chris Prynoski’s NERDLAND also gets its LA premiere. The first feature from Prynoski’s Titmouse Animation Studios is a wild descent into LA’s soul-destroying entertainment industry and will feature director Prynoski, writer Andrew Kevin Walker, actor Patton Oswalt plus others in attendance.

Beyond Fest welcomes the return of genre streaming platform Shudder as its Presenting Sponsor, a partnership that provides 13 screenings (9 West Coast premieres) absolutely free to film fans. Every night, the 90-seat ‘Shudder Theatre’ will feature a brand new film selected from across the world including

Emile Hirsch’s super creepy THE AUTOPSY OF JANE DOE, Japanese scare-fest SADAKO VS KAYAKO, Morgan Spurlock’s stomach-churning doc RATS, the revelatory Kubrick doc S IS FOR STANLEY, the hands down craziest film of the year THE DWARVES MUST BE CRAZY and two Cinematic Void double bills featuring a premiere screening of Arrow’s 4K restoration of Romero’s THE CRAZIES paired with MARTIN on 16mm and an American Genre Film Archive fundraiser featuring a 35mm monster mash up of NEON MANIACS and STREET TRASH.

If that wasn’t enough, virtual reality engulfs Beyond Fest for the first time with Dark Corner Studios showcasing three of their most terrifying experiences. Led by wunder-director Guy Shelmerdine, guests will be able to watch his breakout VR horror smash CATATONIC, in addition to his new film MULE and Justin Denton’s BURLAP. The Egyptian Theatre will be housing Dark Corner in the hidden reaches of its 90 year old architecture.

Beyond Fest

Beyond Fest is the highest attended genre film festival in the U.S. and exists to build the genre community in Los Angeles. Based out of Hollywood’s legendary Egyptian Theatre, Beyond Fest is built in partnership with the American Cinematheque, Meltdown Comics, Death Waltz Recording Co. and the Alamo Drafthouse’s, Fantastic Fest. A not-for-profit entity, Beyond Fest raises funds for the 501C3 non-profit film institution, American Cinematheque. Its favorite film is JAWS.

American Cinematheque

Established in 1981, the American Cinematheque is a 501C3 non-profit viewer-supported film exhibition and cultural organization dedicated to the celebration of the Moving Picture in all of its forms. The American Cinematheque renovated and reopened (on Dec. 4, 1998) the historic 1922 Hollywood Egyptian Theatre. This includes a state-of-the-art 616-seat theatre housed within Sid Grauman’s first grand movie palace on Hollywood Boulevard. The exotic courtyard is fully restored to its 1922 grandeur. The Egyptian was the home of the very first Hollywood movie premiere in 1922. In January 2005 the American Cinematheque expanded its programming to the 1940 Aero Theatre on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica.

Death Waltz Recording Co.

FOUNDED in 2011 by music industry veteran Spencer Hickman, Death Waltz Recording Co. have been at the forefront of the vinyl soundtrack resurgence. Working with directors & composers such as David Lynch, Richard Kelly, John Carpenter, Fabio Frizzi & Steve Moore to produce definitive versions of classic soundtracks to films both old and new. Recently venturing into both digital and CD territory DWRC remain the leading lights of the soundtrack scene . In 2015 DWRC joined Mondo Tees and Hickman now runs both The Mondo Music Label and DWRC.

Meltdown Comics

Located in the heart of Hollywood on Sunset Blvd, Meltdown opened in 1993 and has since become one the most respected comic book stores in the world. Taking a sophisticated approach to merchandise and operations, the 14,000 sq ft giant has garnered a reputation for hosting successful gallery openings, award winning comedy including the Comedy Central’s The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail, live shows and  podcasting events in their collaborative space with Nerdist and the NerdMelt Showroom.

Not content with LA Weekly naming us one of the “Top 50 things why LA kicks ass,” Hef’s Playboy Magazine named us a “top 10 store you must visit before you die.” Oh, and “Husbands and Knives,” the 7th episode of The Simpsons’ 19th season… The lead segment is based on us. (Google it.) ‘Nuff Said!

Shudder

Beyond Fest, Starz, Death Waltz Recording Co. Present a Night of the Dead

Featuring Fabio Frizzi’s THE BEYOND: Composer’s Cut, CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD on 35mm and a Special Secret Screening

Legendary composer Fabio Frizzi returns to Los Angeles to perform THE BEYOND: Composer’s Cut, the first ever live rescore of Lucio Fulci’s masterpiece, THE BEYOND, and is accompanied by two screenings of the living dead.

Beyond Fest have partnered with Starz and Death Waltz Recording Co. to bring the illustrious composer Fabio Frizzi back to Los Angeles where he will be performing a completely new composition to Lucio Fulci’s supernatural shocker. Famed for his iconic Fulci’s scores (ZOMBI 2, SEVEN NOTES IN BLACK, THE BEYOND, CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD, MANHATTAN BABY), THE BEYOND: COMPOSER’S CUT, marks a daunting and decidedly different approach to the film and its score, one that has never been seen in the US until now. Complete with his 7-piece band, the maestro will perform for one night only on Sunday, October 2nd at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.

Fabio Frizzi on THE BEYOND: Composer’s Cut:

“35 years after the shooting of Lucio’s horror/thriller masterpiece, I have retraced my steps in order to realize one of the boldest projects of my life: a composer’s cut. While we are accustomed “theatrical cuts” and “director’s cuts”, nobody has dared to conceive and perform a movie version following the musician’s point of view.

“What I have created is a new score for a cult classic, realized in a more modern way, almost in the ‘Hollywood style,’ with very few moments of silence but with great respect for the films original identity and keeping all of the dialog intact. THE BEYOND: Composer’s Cut is a true, expanded version of itself, realized through renewed vigour and the important ally of 35 years of added proficiency. Powered by the prog rock strength and orchestration of last year’s Frizzi 2 Fulci tour, it will be performed by the very best performers of my F2F band.

“THE BEYOND: Composer’s Cut explores an iconic past, renewed through a modern stylization of itself. which can now be experienced as the score is performed live to one of the most famous movies shot by this incredible director and dear friend, Lucio Fulci.”

In addition to THE BEYOND: Composer’s Cut, fans will also be treated to two very special screenings:

  • Immediately preceding THE BEYOND: Composer’s Cut is a very special 30 minute secret screening with guests.
  • Following Frizzi’s live re score performance of THE BEYOND is a screening of CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD. Grindhouse Releasing are generously sharing their private print of Fulci’s gothic masterpiece. This rarely seen 35mm print is the fully uncensored and unrated director’s cut, in scope.

“We are delighted to bring Fabio, one of the undisputed masters of Italian soundtracks, back to North America,” said Mondo Music label head, Spencer Hickman. “After the rapturous success of last year’s Frizzi2Fulci tour, it was a simple decision to engineer his return, especially when considering what he has planned.”

“Last year was so special for all of us, 40 years of dreams were finally realized. From the moment we left we have wanted to return but we knew it had to be in support of something very special. We think that we have achieved this with THE BEYOND: Composer’s Cut,” said Frizzi of the upcoming performance.

Highly influential to this day, Fabio Frizzi is one of the most celebrated Italian film composers, and respected in the same iconic pantheon as Ennio Morricone, Bruno Nicolai, Goblin and Gianni Ferrio. Frizzi’s influence has been cited by a vast range of contemporary artists ranging from Boards Of Canada to Wu Tang’s RZA, and he is heavily referenced by the rising stars of synth-horror including Umberto and Zombi. Frizzi’s work also resonates with cinephiles as Quentin Tarantino used the theme from SEVEN NOTES IN BLACK for his soundtrack to KILL BILL VOL 1.

Beyond Fest + Legion M invites you to experience three terrifying visions of virtual reality horror from Dark Corner Studios

This year marks the first time that Beyond Fest has entered the virtual reality space, and it’s doing so in a big way. Partnering with Los Angeles VR studio Dark Corner, and Legion M, Beyond Fest will be playing three terrifying VR experiences from the team that wrecked senses with their 360-hospital-shocker Catatonic. Founded by commercial director extraordinaire Guy Shelmerdine, Dark Corner is the world’s first genre VR studio and they will be showcasing their very best. MULE is Shelmerdine’s eagerly awaited follow-up to CATATONIC. An emotional, fast-paced hell-ride that catapults the viewer through the final shocking moments of a man’s life (and beyond), MULE will also see the unveiling of a new, custom-designed installation tied to the film’s plot that Shelmerdine promises to be “bigger, more immersive, and more terrifying” than anything they’ve done before.

“The first time I saw these brilliant movies I lost my mind. They are legitimately scary-as-shit and represent a fully-realized future of horror, said Christian Parkes, Beyond Fest Co-Founder.

Dark Corner will also be showcasing Justin Denton’s two-part horror experience, BURLAP. Existing as both a traditional 2D short film and an immersive VR experience, BURLAP depicts a disturbed killer who zeroes in on an unfortunate babysitter to complete the creation of his secret “masterpiece.” Audiences can step inside the story with BURLA: REFLECTIONS, where they will experience the killer’s sinister obsession firsthand. In addition, Dark Corner will be bringing CATATONIC to terrorize Beyond Fest audiences for the first time.

“We’re incredibly excited to be an integral part of Beyond Fest and share our experiences here in LA, our home town,” said Dark Corner founder Guy Shelmerdine. “These films represent unforgettable journeys that are intended to push the boundaries of what 360º immersive storytelling can be. We cannot wait to unleash them.”

All experiences are free with sign up for viewing on site at the Egyptian Theatre.

This VR experience has been made possible with the kind support of Dark Corner Studios and Legion M.

A Salute to the Master: Wes Craven

A Nightmare on Elm Street is one of the undisputed genre classics and the film that made Craven a household name. Focusing on Nancy Thompson (Heather Langenkamp) and her friends whose dreams are stalked by a vicious serial killer named Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund), Nightmare is a masterpiece in tension and discomfort, creating a dream landscape that once seen, can never be unseen or forgotten.

The Serpent & The Rainbow is Craven’s masterful exploration of a tale of horror loosely based on a true story. Dr. Dennis Allan (Bill Pullman), a Harvard anthropologist from the States, is sent to Haiti to find a miraculous powder purported to bring the dead back to life. The cynical scientist quickly finds himself on a nightmarish journey through the darkest heart of voodoo and black magic when he starts meddling in things he doesn’t understand, namely ancient curses and blood rites. Craven’s brilliant gem presents voodoo in a beautifully realistic manner whilst keeping a constant sense of palpable supernatural dread.

Calling All EVIL DEAD-Heads!

The man, the myth, the chin Bruce Campbell is coming to Beyond Fest for a celebration of THE EVIL DEAD presented by Starz and ASH VS EVIL DEAD.

Bruce Campbell, aka Ash, aka Ashley J. Williams, aka He-who-has-come-from-the-sky-to-deliver-us-from- the-terrors-of-the-Deadites, is bringing his boomstick to the Egyptian Theatre on Saturday, October 3rd to get groovy with us all. Bruce will be joined in conversation by director Edgar Wright to talk all things Evil Dead between an epic double bill of the first two movies projected on 35mm.

Tickets for this event are $15 and will go on sale through Brown Paper Tickets on Saturday, September 5th at high noon, however, if you’re a serious Evil Dead fan you have a shot at getting two tickets for FREE before anyone else…

We’re going to be giving away 25 pairs of tickets to the most hardcore Evil Dead fans for FREE this Friday, September 4th at 7PM at Meltdown Comics on Sunset Blvd, however, here’s the catch… To show you’re the most die hard Evil Dead fan you’re going to have to prove it by showing us your Evil Dead tattoo. Yep, that’s right, if you have an Evil Dead tattoo you get two free tickets AND you get early entry into the theater to pick the best seats in the house.

Now, there are guidelines for these tattoos… First, they have to be CLEARLY from the Evil Dead movies, that means Ash, Henrietta, Deadites, the Necronomicon, flying eyeballs into gaping mouths etc. (leave your random chainsaws at home). Second, there’s nothing dainty about The Evil Dead so your tattooes can’t be either – nothing smaller than three inches in length gets you tickets. If you’re not sure if your ink qualifies, email it to info [at] beyondfest.com by noon Friday and we’ll let you know what’s up. Tickets are first come first served and you’ll have to line up inside the store along the east wall if you get there early.

We admit, this is pretty nuts but there are some serious fans out there who live and die by these films, it only makes sense to give a little back to those who have supported Sam and Bruce so hard.

For those of you that don’t have an Evil Dead tattoo yet don’t despair, Studio City Tattoo will be on site at the Egyptian on October 3rd giving free tattoos to anyone who wants one. You’ll need a ticket to the show but you’ll get in early if you get a tattoo on site. Follow us on Twitter for more info closer to the event.

Let’s get groovy, Los Angeles.

BEYOND FEST ANNOUNCES ITS FULL SLATE FOR THE RETURN OF LA’S BIGGEST GENRE FILM FESTIVAL

LEGEND, THE ASSASSIN, BONE TOMAHAWK, YAKUZA APOCALYPSE, THE INVITATION and THE MIND’S EYE join Bruce Campbell, Edgar Wright, Al Pacino, Brett Ratner, Henry Rollins, Shepard Fairey, Fabio Frizzi, Die Antwoord’s Ninja and The Meltdown’s Jonah & Kumail for a slate featuring 16 West Coast Premieres, iconic repertory titles, and live musical performances!

Los Angeles, CA – Thursday, September 3, 2015 – Beyond Fest, the highest attended genre film festival in the US, is excited to announce its full slate of 2015 programming featuring 25 events of mind-bending, movie madness. Presented by Shudder, Beyond Fest returns to Hollywood’s famed Egyptian Theatre for 11 days of movies, music and mayhem spanning Thursday, October 1st – Monday, October 12th to generate funds for co-presenter, the nonprofit American Cinematheque.

With a diverse slate that includes films from all corners of the globe Beyond Fest is proud to present 16 West Coast premieres including Brian Hegeland’s masterful LEGEND as opening night film and Hsiao-hsien Hou’s breathtaking martial arts ballet THE ASSASSIN, to close. Other hotly-anticipated titles include Kurt Russell’s existential western shocker BONE TOMAHAWK, Miike Takeshi’s gloriously outrageous YAKUZA APOCALYPSE and Karyn Kusama’s terrifying thriller THE INVITATION.

“We’re just relieved that a film institution as revered as the American Cinematheque let us come back,” said Beyond Fest Co-Founder, Christian Parkes. “Last year, guests were whipped, they vomited and snorted snuff en masse, it was bedlam. With this lineup I’m proud to say it’s going to be even bigger.”

The legend Bruce Campbell takes center stage with Edgar Wright for an EVIL DEAD double bill for the ages featuring both films projected on glorious 35mm. Tickets will be made available to purchase on Saturday, September 5th at noon PST, however, the most die-hard Deadites will be rewarded early as 25 pairs of tickets will be gifted free to those sporting an EVIL DEAD tattoo. Maintaining the theme and commemorating the night Studio City Tattoo will be on-site providing free EVIL DEAD tattoos for the most hardcore fans.

Two wildly different anniversary screenings celebrate two wildly iconic films with Al Pacino sitting in conversation with Brett Ratner for the 40th anniversary of DOG DAY AFTERNOON, while The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail host an epic 30th anniversary reunion screening of BETTER OFF DEAD with director Savage Steve Holland, Curtis Armstrong, Diane Franklin and more.

Once again, music features prominently in Beyond Fest’s charter with some of the most influential and innovative artists participating. Die Antwoord’s Ninja will be joined by friends as he hosts a rare 35mm screening of ERASERHEAD for ‘A Night of Zef Absurdia.’ Punk icon Henry Rollins is celebrated with the West Coast premiere of his existential cannibal shocker HE NEVER DIED. Post screening, Rollins will be joined by director Jason Krawczyk in a wide ranging conversation moderated by agent provocateur Shepard Fairey.

Legendary composer Fabio Frizzi is performing in Los Angeles for the first time in his illustrious 40 year career. Complete with his 8-piece orchestra, the Maestro will perform FRIZZI 2 FULCI LIVE: his magnificent musical-opus highlighting his work with Lucio Fulci. FRIZZI 2 FULCI LIVE will also feature a rare screening of the Fulci’s gothic masterpiece THE BEYOND uncut, uncensored and in scope on 35mm.

The original 1925 version of Lon Chaney’s THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA gets the live score treatment courtesy of his grandson Ron Chaney who is screening the masterpiece on 16mm. The 1925 score has remained in possession of the Chaney family since the film’s release and will be performed for one of the first times in 90 years. Ron Chaney will be in attendance to discuss the impact of Chaney’s work.

Premiering live, synth superstar Steve Moore will perform his score to horror wunderkind Joe Begos’ THE MIND’S EYE before the telekinetic shocker receives its hometown throwdown premiere. Moore’s performance will be complemented by the release of a limited 7” courtesy of Death Waltz Records, produced exclusively for the screening.

“Music has been an integral part of Beyond Fest from the very beginning,” said Spencer Hickman, Mondo / Death Waltz Recording Co. Label Head. “The first show we ever booked was Goblin and we’re incredibly proud to build on that foundation with this phenomenal and unique line up.”

Celebrating LA filmmaking remains a priority for Beyond Fest with Karyn Kusama receiving this year’s ‘LA Spotlight’ for her shocking thriller, THE INVITATION. As part of her Spotlight screening, Kusama selected Philip Kaufman’s INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS to accompany her film citing its malevolent corresponding elements and themes.

Beyond Fest welcomes the horror streaming platform Shudder as its Presenting Sponsor, a partnership that provides 10 screenings (9 West Coast premieres) absolutely free to film fans. Every night, the 100-seat ‘Shudder Theatre’ will feature a brand new film selected from across the world including a demented Mads Mikkelsen’s in Anders Thomas Jensen’s unbelievably black comedy, MEN AND CHICKEN, manga favorite / insanely-mental-live-action-madness of ASSASSINATION CLASSROOM, the hyper-violent remake of Mario Bava’s Euro-crime nasty, RABID DOGS, the creepy debut shocker from Oz Perkins, FEBRUARY, Majid Al Ansari’s electrifying cat and mouse thriller, RATTLE THE CAGE (ZINZANA) and the over-the-top martial arts sequel, SPL 2.

“These are some of the best and most provocative films of the year,” said American Cinematheque and Beyond Fest programmer, Grant Moninger. “That we can provide them completely free of charge is very important to us, we’re thankful to Shudder for being a part of our mission to bring great films to the great genre fans of this city.”

Beyond Fest, Mondo, Death Waltz Recording Co. present FRIZZI2FULCI LIVE with Fabio Frizzi

Legendary composer Fabio Frizzi comes to Los Angeles for the first time ever to perform his horror classics live. Complete with his 8-piece Frizzi2Fulci Orchestra, Fabio will perform for one night only on Sunday, October 4th at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.

Beyond Fest have partnered with Mondo and Death Waltz Recording Co. to bring the Italian maestro to Los Angeles where he performing suites from Lucio Fulci’s classic Italian horror films including ZOMBI 2 (AKA ZOMBIE FLESH EATERS), SEVEN NOTES IN BLACK, THE BEYOND, CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD, MANHATTAN BABY and more. Orchestral performances will also be accompanied by live visuals derived from Fulci’s iconic filmography.

In addition to Frizzi2Fulci Live, fans will also be treated to a very special screening of THE BEYOND immediately after the live performance. To celebrate Fabio’s arrival in Los Angeles, Grindhouse Releasing are generously sharing their private print of Fulci’s gothic masterpiece.

This rarely seen 35mm print is the fully uncensored and unrated director’s cut, in scope.

“We are delighted to bring Fabio, one of the undisputed masters of Italian horror soundtracks, to North America,” said Mondo Music label head, Spencer Hickman. “We’ve been trying to bring him here for two years, that he will perform for the first time on US soil with his live tribute show to Italian director Lucio Fulci makes it incredibly special for both Fabio and fans alike.”

“This is a great opportunity to tell my story in America, the story of an Italian composer and his journey through sound and cinema. I’m excited to share the sights and sounds of Lucio Fulci’s and to perform for US fans that have been supportive for the last 40 years of my career. It’s an emotion that is hard to explain,” said Frizzi of the upcoming shows.

Beyond Fest and Death Waltz Records Present HO! HO! HELL!

SILENT NIGHT DEADLY NIGHT + CHRISTMAS EVIL Death Waltz Records Release
Featuring Cast! Crew! Krampus’! Donuts! Nuns! Snow! And all sorts of other Christmas carnage!

Bring the family and come celebrate the most wonderful time of the year with two of the most infamous shockers ever committed to celluloid.

Enjoying its 30th anniversary, SILENT NIGHT DEADLY NIGHT returns to the big screen on glorious 35mm, courtesy of the American Genre Film Archive.

After drawing the ire of parents, critics and its distributor, SILENT NIGHT DEADLY NIGHT quickly became the stuff of lurid legend as a homicidal Santa stabs, slashes and slaughters his way through Christmas Eve. Virtually every moral taboo is shattered in a wild 85 minutes that brings the warm glow of festive fear to one and all.

Not content with just one sacrilegious screening, we’re doubling down with the film John Waters described as “the greatest Christmas movie ever made,” the incomparable CHRISTMAS EVIL.

Molestation and murder are once again high on the holiday wish list as a mentally scarred child grows up to be a homicidal maniac with a penchant for Santa suits.

Rarely seen on the big screen, CHRISTMAS EVIL is a wonderfully dark and twistedly funny indictment of the commercialization of Christmas that is more cutting today than it was upon it’s release.

Copies of both soundtracks will be available to purchase on-site.

Immediately following SILENT NIGHT DEADLY NIGHT there will be a Q&A with cast and crew of SILENT NIGHT DEADLY NIGHT and CHRISTMAS EVIL director Lewis Jackson, followed by a signing session of both records.

Nightcrawler Called ‘nasty, funny film’ by The Guardian at Toronto Film Festival

Nightcrawler which is to screen later this month at Beyond Fest with the director Dan Gilroy in attendance is currently wowing audiences at Toronto International Film Festival.

Reporting from the festival, Henry Barnes wrote in his glowing review:

“From a subdued start Nightcrawler unfurls into a ghoulish and wickedly funny satire on journalism, the job market and self-help culture. Lou is a retro creation: a strange, real character lurking in a moral grey area. Gyllenhaal, slimmed down and bug-eyed, looks like Nosferatu, but has the manic vulnerability of Andy Kaufman. Lou’s like a Wes Anderson character who’s ambition has warped into a realm of violent sociopathy.”

Barnes concludes: “Nightcrawler is a nasty, funny film. A tribute to the vile and a celebration of the dark.”
